Research in Petroleum and Environment: A Bibliometric Analysis in South America

Petroleum is a crucial resource that has globally influenced the scientific community and socio-economic development. However, its industrial processes negatively affect natural environment. This research aims to analyse intellectual structure of petroleum environment relationship in South American countries' contributions through bibliometric methods. The study presents methodology: i) establishing search criteria; ii) initial results; iii) refinement iv) data analysis. Bibliometric methods were incorporated performance production, mapping, allowing reveal structure. results show growth this field (538 articles) contribution countries, institutions authors. Most studies related oil carried out by Brazil (399 have strong collaboration with Argentina, Colombia Uruguay partnerships countries outside region such as United States, Kingdom, Spain. In addition, seven themes found (Biomarkers-petroleum derivatives, bioremediation, bioproductive processes, hydrocarbon-environmental, pollution effects, mangrove pollution, spill-simulation). provided relevant information on environmental reflected diverse sectors America (coastal Amazonian areas). It showed several remediation focused microorganisms, biosurfactants, microbial residues, ionic phytoremediation. Therefore, allows us obtain meaningful current art state study.
